Take A Journey with Dorothy
Sure the film is incredibly old, but sadly the design of the symbols make the slot feel so outdated it is rather off-putting when compared to the slick video slots we have become accustomed to over the last decade - though all our favourite friends from the Emerald City make a welcome appearance
There are three special symbols to lookout for. The Wild is the Wizard of Oz logo and this substitutes for all standard symbols, a Scatter (also known as Feature) symbol that is the magical Emerald City, plus a Jackpot symbol that only falls during the base game with five on a payline awarding you the jackpot.
Dorothy of course makes an appearance too and she is joined by Scarecrow, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, the Wicked Witch, with her dog Toto, her house, a tornado, hot air balloon, ruby slippers completing the range of symbols that you’ll encounter on your journey.
Follow the Yellow Brick Road
This is the main bonus game in Wizard of Oz and it requires the tricky combination of an Emerald City symbol on the first, third and fifth reels during the same spin in order gain access to it. When you do so you then have a choice to make by clicking on one of the three triggering symbols to reveal your prize, with the following up for grabs.
Cash Win: This simply sees a cash prize awarded to you which usually ranges from 5 to 10x your initial stake and it’s actually one you’ll want to avoid as much greater prizes are on offer with the other two features.
Winged Monkey Feature: This sees you awarded with 8 free spins but in addition to this if you land the Winged Monkey symbol on the central reel he swoops onto the reels to turn positions Wild for the next spin, with the more positions turned Wild resulting in much larger prizes!
Road to Emerald City Feature: The third and final feature in the Oz Feature is the Road to Emerald City which sees you pick between a selection of emeralds on screen with either a cash win, trip to character land or trip to the glorious Emerald City on offer. The cash win speaks for itself but if it’s a trip to character land you go to the location associated with characters from the film – Cornfield for Scarecrow, Apple Orchard for Tin Man, Dark Forest for Cowardly Lion, or Castle for the Wicked Witch. In each location you’ll have to select gold charms to reveal the character for a prize and access to Emerald City where big wins await with Dorothy being of highest valued – by far!
Glinda The Good Witch
The Glinda the Witch feature is the simplest of all and doesn’t even require a combination of symbols on the reels to trigger it as it occurs completely at random. Glinda can pop on screen at any time during the base game and turn one to five of the reels into expanding Wilds which then see the reels recalculated to reward you with winnings for the combinations that this results in. This usually results in small to medium sized wins, however it occurs so frequently that it can significantly boost your balance.

Wonderful or Woeful?
While it’s better than the Wizard of Oz Wicked Riches slot machine which was the third release in the series and has a much more traditional feel about it, I much prefer the sequel titled Wizard of Oz Ruby Slippers slot machine as it has a far more modern appearance and offers even higher rewarding bonus features!
