If you love your US adult cartoon action - and like it rude (like, really rude) - then your highly-trained radar would definitely have picked up American Dad!
Scraped from the depraved minds of Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane (no surprise there) plus Family Guy scribes Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman, American Dad! centres around Stan Smith - a conservative right-wing secret service agent - and his hapless family unit. He has terror alerts popping up on his fridge, a talking goldfish (naturally) and a wise-cracking alien left over from the Roswell crash.
Humorous TV cartoons have incredible longevity in the US, and American Dad! is still going strong (at time of writing) but it has a way to go to catch up with The Simpsons' 50,000 years on screen.
While slots developers sometimes bring out branded games years after the show has shifted off the televised mortal coil, Playtech's adaptation of American Guy! comes while the show is still on. It's good to see a slot celebrating the current trends - we look forward to Microgaming's Antiques Roadshow or Play 'n Go's Emmerdale. (OK, perhaps that's wishful thinking.)
American Dad!, as with other cartoon-themed slots like NetEnt's South Park, suffers a little from the very thing that makes the show good - simple, eye-catching illustrations. There is little-to-none animation on the reels - five of them here - but all the show's main characters are present and correct. American Dad! is played on four rows, and there are 40 paylines to bet across. You can choose your stakes, with coin bets from €0.01 to €5 available.
The regular symbols in the game - Q, K and ace, plus Stan, Klaus, and his family members - are fairly low-paying but Stan himself pays 250x your line bet if you land five in a row on a payline.
Look out for Roger, Stan's "pet" alien. He acts Wild and substitutes for all regular symbols in the game except the American Dad! logo. Five Wild Rogers pays out a jackpot worth 750x your line bet.
If you're into your American Dad! you'll remember the episode where Roger invents one of the greatest made-up words ever committed to the dictionary: Schmooblydong.
Used to describe the sensation of listening to Barbara Streisand sing Celine Dion numbers, Roger can only sum it up with the single word response. Of course, Roger has just come down from a trip so the experience is doubly whacked.
Land the American Dad! symbols on Reela 1 and 3 and the Schmooblydong Wheel will spin once. Land them on Reels 1, 3, and 5 and you'll earn free games.
So, what happens when the wheel spins? There are several cool bonuses to hit. First, the wheel on Reel 1 will spin to determine your character. Next, the Reel 3 wheel will spin to determine your "Power Up" factor (2-10). If you hit the wheel on Reel 5, it will spin to determine the number of free spins (3-25).
If you like your slots scatological, look no further than South Park and South Park: Reel Chaos. Like this Playtech number, those two games rely heavily on the strong brand and feature actual plot references from the original shows.
With South Park: Reel Chaos, in particular, you are truly spoiled for choice when it comes to bonus features. Every main character - Stan, Cartman, Kenny, and Kyle - has a dedicated bonus feature and you'll be able to enjoy interesting takes on shifting Wilds, free spins multipliers, and stacked Wilds.
Like American Dad!, South Park: Reel Chaos is fairly volatile (it is NetEnt, after all) but there is plenty to get your teeth into. It also features an RTP of 96.8% - a fairly healthy return if you can hit the bonus features.
TV-themed slots are big right now. Microgaming's Game of Thrones has a massive jackpot if you're brave enough, while NetEnt's South Park-themed games continue to light up casino lobbies across the net. Give American Dad! a try and see if Playtech have the muscle to keep up.
