Dynasty of Ming Slot

Within the history of China, the Ming Dynasty holds an incredibly special place. Considered to be the wealthiest of all Chinese dynasties, it is widely regarded as a period of time that helped solidify China as a true global power. Rife with treasure and trinkets, through brand new game Dynasty of Ming, Novomatic is attempting to the channel the spirit of the legendary dynasty in a way never seen before

Yes, the Ming Dynasty has certainly been the theme behind various other real money slots releases, but it can be argued that it’s never had such a heightened level of intrigue than in this title. Novomatic is clearly attempting something different here, but is Dynasty of Ming set to become a jewel in the developer’s crown? The following review reveals all!

Experiencing Ancient Chinese History

Novomatic is still in many ways a developer that is looking for that breakthrough release, as it’s in need of that “it” game to take it to the next level. Hoping to be that very game is Dynasty of Ming, as its clear that the game is backed by quite a lofty premise, as it attempts to tell the tale of the “Ming Masters” and the riches that surrounded them. While the theme of the game certainly carries plenty of pomp and pageantry, the graphics here tend to fall flat. The graphics used appear to be pretty dated, while the less said about the control panel the better.

The idea behind Dynasty of Ming is so grand that we really expected so much more in the looks department. While the symbols look passable, the rest of the game’s graphics really are poor, so Novomatic has let itself down somewhat here.

Win Up To 150,000 Coins In The Base Game

Dynasty of Ming doesn’t carry all that much oomph in the looks department, so its gameplay becomes all the more important. Through 5 reels and 9 paylines, the game really does open up the more you play it.

Prize-wise, the game has plenty of weight. Leading the way in terms of payouts is a cool 180,000 coins, which is unlocked when the Emperor with the bright orange plumage on his helmet shows up on the reels enough times. Outside of this, 150,000, 100,000, 80,000, and 50,000 coin prizes are also available. Most Novomatic titles are a little lightweight when it comes to gameplay and prizes, so it’s great to see the brand release a game in Dynasty of Ming that has some real punching power.

Chasing The Mystical Dragon

Dynasty of Ming comes with two bonus features, but what makes them different to the norm is that they both carry dual uses. The Chinese Dragons and the Wild Emperor Ming represent Scatters in Dynasty of Ming.

The aforementioned emperor in orange not only links to the game’s top prize, but he also has the power to push aside all other low-value game symbols in order to create even more prize-winning paylines. The scattered dragon in Ming Dynasty isn’t just your ticket to a bumper 100,000-coin payout, it can also trigger up to 15 free spins too. Some may bemoan the fact that this game doesn’t come with a dedicated bonus round, but we personally don’t feel that this takes too much away from the game.

Step Into The Shoes Of A Warrior

We mentioned above that Dynasty of Ming is not a unique game in theme, as plenty of other developers have had a crack at creating games along the same lines. Because there is that many Ancient Chinese styled slot games out there, actually making a solid recommendation or two is actually slightly difficult. Looking back through our conclusive slots database, what immediately jumps out to us is Ming Warrior from Ainsworth.

Built around 5 reels, 3 rows, and 20 paylines, the game is largely able to mimic Dynasty of Ming in execution, with the bonus features also running along the same lines. In fact, it can even be argued that this release goes slightly beyond Dynasty of Ming in terms of an all around package, as Ming Warrior has a really glossy looking UI to boot.

It’s pretty clear that Novomatic has thrown plenty of resources behind Dynasty of Ming, but the outcome of these efforts is pretty mixed at best. The overall look of the game is pretty underwhelming, yet the payouts in the game are pretty big for a Novomatic release.

It is this “one step forward, two steps back” mentality that runs rife throughout Dynasty of Ming, with the game not being the home run title it should have been as a result.
