Book of Ra Deluxe Slot Review

Once again it is time to delve deep inside the Ancient Egyptian Pyramids etched with hieroglyphics on the walls as we join an archaeologist on the hunt for treasure and try to discover some for ourselves in this sequel to the original Book of Ra slot machine from Novomatic.

A Series Is Born…

When you release an online slot which takes players by storm and proves extremely popular following it up can be a challenge, however Novomatic have done a great job with the Book of Ra Deluxe as the graphics and gameplay have been significantly improved while maintaining the theme and bonus features which made it such a popular title in the first place.

Since this release Novomatic have released Book of Ra 6 Deluxe as a sequel to this slot which sees an Extra Bet feature included enabling you to play for 6 reels rather than 5, which while costing more offers the opportunity for even greater wins should you land six of the same symbols on a payline!

What’s The Structure of This Pyramid?

While the original Book of Ra slot contained a 5 reel and 9 payline structure, Book of Ra Deluxe keeps the 5 reels but offers 10 paylines. Of course the important thing when playing slots online for real money is the betting limits and they are pleasing too – with a minimum bet per line of 1 and a maximum of 100, therefore all paylines can be played for 10 credits up to 1000 credits every spin (or in other terms £0.10 up to £100).

Awesome Ancient Symbols but Awful Sounds

While many of the symbols in Book of Ra Deluxe are the same as those from the original, their designs have been substantially improved and look much more realistic. While most slots have separate Wild and Scatter symbols, this one sees the Book of Ra symbol act as both and therefore can substitute any of the others. As in the original, an Archaeologist accompanies these alongside a Sarcophagus, Scarabs, and playing card symbols that have been designed in hieroglyphic style.

The Archaeologist is worth the most with five on a payline seeing you paid out with a 500x win, the Book of Ra and Sarcophagus symbols are joint second highest worth 200x for five on a payline, and as expected the Queen, Jack and 10 symbols each pay out just 10x should you land five of either on a payline.

Novomatic have once again missed the mark with the sound effects utilised in Book of Ra Deluxe. The sounds are just standard ones used in their other slot machines like Xtra Hot and Sizzling Hot Deluxe which aren’t even related to the Ancient Egyptian theme, and that’s really unfortunate as it does detract from the experience when playing Book of Ra Deluxe – Egyptian sounds would have made it feel so much more authentic.

Free Spins

Three or more Book of Ra symbols landing anywhere on the reels sees you unlock the free spins mode. This grants you a total of 10 free spins but what’s interesting is that they come with a special feature – an expanding symbol. This symbol is selected at random before your first free spin and when you spin the reels and land a win this symbol will expand to cover a maximum of three positions on a reel in an attempt to reward you with even more treasure!

Gamble In the Pyramids

Fancy taking a risk in the Pyramids? After every base game win you are given the option to collect your winnings or gamble in an attempt to increase the. If you opt to gamble you’ll be presented with a hieroglyphic playing card quickly flashing from red to black, and a button for two options – red or black. You must click the option of your choice and time it right so that the card is that colour, and doing so sees you double your winnings – though an incorrect choice sees you say bye, bye to them!

Does It Live Up To The Original?

I love Book of Ra Deluxe and definitely prefer it to the original. The overall appearance has greatly been improved as it takes us deep inside a Pyramid with hieroglyphics covering the walls but maintains the characteristics which made its predecessor so popular in the first place.

The symbols look much more professional and realistic, plus the free spins mode has been kept which promises large treasure wins each and every time you gain access to it. If you seek even higher payouts you should check out Book of Ra Deluxe 6 as well with it playing the same as this except offering 6 reels rather than 5.
