African Simba Slot Machine

Jetting off to Africa for a Safari adventure is something everyone dreams of, but with the wins on offer in Novomatic’s African Simba slot machine you could make those dreams a reality. With stunning scenery in the background, African Simba is an obvious take on classic Walt Disney movie The Lion King, but not the original, The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride where Simba has gone from a cute cub into a fully-fledged ferocious and feared Lion.

Win Ways

The structure of African Simba is a pleasant change from the 10 and 20 payline slots provided by them so often. There remains the usual 5 reels but it’s a 243-ways slot that can be set to play 3-ways, 9-ways, 27-ways, 81-ways, or the maximum of 243-ways depending on the options you select. The bet per line can also be altered from the minimum of 2 up to a maximum of 40 – and ultimately this means you can enjoy all paylines for a minimum bet of 50 credits up to a maximum of 1,000 each and every spin.

Wild Symbols, Woeful Sounds

Novomatic are really good at designing stunning symbols for their slot machines and those in African Simba are no exception – I love them! The main symbol to look out for is ‘Simba’ the ferocious Lion who acts as the games Wild, substituting for any others on the reels apart from the Scatter, which in this case is the stunning African Sunset. Other beautifully designed animals you will encounter on your safari are a Giraffe, Water Buffalo, Flamingo and Meerkat’s, and these are accompanied by Ace to 9 playing cards.

Five Giraffes on a payline see you rewarded with a gigantic win of 100x while five of the Jack, 10 or 9 symbols on one payline only result in a 4x win.

Oh Novomatic, when will you learn? The sounds in African Simba simply don’t do the slot justice, they are not even related to the African Safari theme. Instead they are the upbeat random sounds we hear in other standard Novomatic slots such as Beetle Mania Deluxe and so many others.

Free Spins

Successfully land three African Sunset symbols anywhere on the reels and you will be taking an adventure in the safari with huge wins on offer. You are instantly rewarded with an initial 12 free spins which sound great on their own but the best is yet to come. On top of these all wins are enhanced with a 3x multiplier, plus the free spins mode can be retriggered so you can keep spinning those reels for big wins completely free!

Gamble in the Wilderness

A familiar feature in Novomatic, the gamble enables you to take a risk and grow your base game wins to more significant amounts. It sees a playing card (just as you use playing Blackjack games) face down and you must decide whether the card will be red or black when it is flipped over. If you guess correctly your win gets doubled and you can go again and again, however a wrong decision sees you lose your winnings, including those from the base game you used to access the gamble mode.

Is It King of The Jungle?

Overall I really enjoyed playing African Simba, but is it King of the Jungle? Well no, it’s not. The symbols look amazing and I especially love how they come to life in short animated actions when you land a winning combination on the reels, for example the Lion snarls ferociously and then takes a bite out of the Wild text – pretty neat stuff. I also loved how the Scatters to trigger the free spins mode only have to be in view and not on specific reels as this makes it easier to activate the feature – and with the ability to retrigger it and all wins being tripled it provides winning opportunities to see you crowned as King of the Jungle.

The sounds were bitterly disappointing and unrelated to the African Safari theme, but hey, we have become used to this from Novomatic which is a great shame.

When you look at the amount of African-Safari themed online slots that have been released African Simba simply doesn’t stand it, instead it’s ‘just another one’ which is unfortunate. A fantastic alternative is the Mega Moolah from Microgaming which boasts a life changing progressive jackpot.
