The Good, The Bad and The Ugly Slot Review

Guns at the ready, it’s time to take aim and relive a Western classic as you fire your way to big wins! For most of you The Good, The Bad and The Ugly will need no introduction as it is one of the most popular Western films of all time – but for the younger generation amongst you don’t be put off as the graphics, sounds and bonus features all make for a slot machine of equally classic proportions!

Directed by Sergio Leone, the Western classic was released in 1966 and revolves around the three gunslingers (The Man with No Name played by Clint Eastwood as the Good, Angel Eyes played by Lee Van Cleef as the Bad, and Tuco played by Eli Wallach as the Ugly) battling it out to discover a buried fortune amid the violence of the American Civil War.

Wild West Meets Comic Style

It is a slot with 5 reels and 20 paylines which begins with a cut-scene from the movie and sees Clint Eastwood situated to the left of the reels in the style of a comic character with Fremantle doing a great job combining the classic Western theme of the film with a modern comic twist – and gameplay is accompanied by authentic soundtrack from the movie that is sure to get your spine tingling in anticipation of big bounties! The stakes are also generous and can see you play from only 20p up to £500 per spin – and there is certainly nothing bad or ugly about the bonus features either!

Big Wins in the Wild West

The comic style continues with the symbols that you’ll encounter on the reels. While you may have expected The Man with No Name (Clint Eastwood) to be the featured symbol it’s actually the silhouette of a horse galloping which is the Wild symbol. There is also a ‘Tuco’s Target Range’ Scatter symbol which sees two revolvers crossed over each other and three symbols of the gunslingers the film revolves around – The Man with No Name, Angel Eyes and Tuco – each of which has a corresponding jackpot, but more on that later.

Completing the line-up of symbols is a bag of gold coins (with five on a single payline worth a massive 2000x win), the flag of the USA, a Confederate flag, a Tuco Wanted poster, a revolver being aimed, a gravestone, machine gun, and a wooden water flask.

Take Aim at Tuco’s Range

The film saw Tuco as a Mexican outlaw wanted in the Wild West with a big bounty on his head and here is your opportunity to claim the reward – if you possess the firing skills. You’ll first need to land the Tuco’s Target Range Scatter symbol on both the first and fifth reels and you’ll then see five cut-out targets on the screen, getting to fire your revolver at three of them. Each possess a multiplier which is applied to your win with the bounty varying between the five targets so pick wisely and don’t waste bullets on low value criminals when the highest valued villain may be beside him!

A Gun Slinging Showdown at the Graveyard

Another impressive feature of The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is the jackpots which see their corresponding values increase each time one of their symbols falls on the reels. To win the loot you’ll then need to land the Good, Bad and Ugly symbols on the third, fourth and fifth reels respectively (which is a difficult yet very rewarding task) to activate the Graveyard bonus. You then see an animation set in a graveyard and select from a coloured segment and fire your gun in that area hitting either the Good, Bad or Ugly and then collecting the jackpot associated with that gunslinger!

Forget Good… It’s Incredible!

The Wild West is a competitive niche in the online slots industry but when I compare The Good, The Bad and The Ugly from Fremantle to some of the most popular Western slots (such as the Dead or Alive slot machine from NetEnt), it certainly holds its own and won’t shy away from a showdown against the big dogs of the gaming industry!

Fremantle have been brave and innovative by transforming the Western classic into a modern comic style rather than going for an old and grainy design like most slots developers would have. In addition to this the authenticity is maintained thanks to the original soundtrack being included, plus the two bonus features are very rewarding – especially the jackpots which correspond to each of the three gunslingers!
