Catch Phrase Slot

‘Say what you see’ is one of the most popular sayings in the history of UK game shows – a line which became famous on Catch Phrase. This game show saw contestants go head-to-head watching a quick animation that looped until the correct answer was found or time ran out with the aim being to guess the catch phrase associated with it – some of which were very random indeed!

Catch Phrase first hit our television screens back in January 1986 and was a firm fixture on Sunday evening’s until April 2004, though it was recently revived again in April 2013 and is still being produced. As such there have been several presenters over the years with Roy Walker being the most familiar as he was the shows presenter for 13 years. He was followed by Nick Weir and Mark Curry who proved much less popular, while Stephen Mulhern is the current presenter. Another famous face is the shows mascot who is a golden robot called Mr Chips and regularly features in the animations.

Released by Endemol in 2013, Catch Phrase is a slot machine offering 5 reels and 20 paylines with bet per line options ranging from £0.01 up to £25 which enables all paylines to be played from only £0.20 up to a maximum of £500 per spin.

Mr Chips Brings the Wins

As usual, if you want to win playing slots online it is the Wild symbol you should look out for. This is the Catch Phrase logo which substitutes for all symbols except for the three Scatters, plus winning combinations featuring a Wild double the prize. The three Scatters feature Mr Chips himself – one of him in a Superman cape, one of him holding a bundle of money, and another where red and blue Mr Chip face off against each other – with each of these required for the bonus games available.

A presenter, red and blue contestant panels, Catch Phrase cards, plus A, K, Q and J letters make up the rest of the symbols.

Catch Phrase Bonus

Landing three or more of the Catch Phrase Bonus symbols begins this feature This sees you face off against a fellow contestant with the aim being to answer five animated clips faster than them. Sadly there is limited interaction as you simply press the buzzer which stops a wheel that then reveals whether you guessed correctly or not. The music throughout this feature is loud and upbeat with the traditional Catch Phrase buzzer sound used when you press it – decent wins but nothing that will get you too excited!

Super Catch Phrase Bonus

Three or more Super Catch Phrase Bonus symbols on the reels grants you access to this feature, and I found it to be more lucrative than the previous one. The famous Catch Phrase board is presented on screen and your task is to collect letters to span the width of the board, with five opportunities to collect a letter and each one collected boosts your winnings. Again not a bonus feature that you will find too fascinating, but there actually are some decent wins to be had.

Ready Money Bonus

The Ready Money Bonus feature is without doubt my favourite feature in Catch Phrase. It is triggered by landing three or more Ready Money Bonus symbols anywhere on screen and sees a free spins mode begin. You use the buzzer to reveal a section of the 3x3 grid in order to discover the number of free spins you are rewarded with along with the size of the multiplier that will be applied to wins – which can be very substantial for big wins!

Say What you See…

As Roy Walker would say, ‘Say what you see’. Visually Catch Phrase is a stunning with vibrant colours used and authentic sounds from the game show ringing out throughout gameplay. It will be suitable to play for players of all bankroll levels thanks to the various bet per line sizes available – another reason it has become so popular at online casinos for UK players.

Unfortunately there were a couple of aspects that I was pretty disappointed with in Catch Phrase. Firstly the presenter symbol is quite generic and I think Endemol should have used an image of Roy Walker who, aside from Mr Chips, is the first person people think of when they hear of Catch Phrase and it would have been a fantastic gesture to feature him after 13 long years presenting the show.

The other disappointment for me was the bonus features which aren’t very interactive and I’m sure this will put some players off. The only one of the three bonus features that I enjoyed was the Ready Money Bonus that sees you click the buzzer to reveal your number of free spins and multiplier bonus – which offers fantastic opportunities to win!
