Ming Warrior Slots

Ming Warrior, the new online slot from Australian games developer, Ainsworth, certainly has "the look". It has a darkly brooding colour palate and two menacing stone dragons curled around the columns of a foreboding looking building. To the left of the 5 reels is a steely warrior setting forth and wielding his mighty sword known as a Changdao sabre.

The graphics are glossy and animated on a low-key scale. Unfortunately the jolly, jingly sound effects jar with the theme and it lacks any interesting music, but, on mute you can use your imagination. The gameplay is straightforward and there are two simple Bonus Features on offer.

Like popular Ainsworth titles, Ming Warrior has an RTP of just 93.88%, and the developer claims a Feature Hit Rate of 1 in 121 games, which is about as high-volatility as you can get.

We intrepidly ventured on an adventure with the Ming Warrior to bring you all the treasured info you need.

Heroic Symbols With 200,000-Coin Payouts

Aiding our brave warrior on his quest are his dragon-crested banner, a ceremonial sword in its stand, a sweeping dagger and, the most valuable of all, his trusty steed. Hitting 5OAK for these higher paying symbols can offer you rewards ranging from 1.50-10 for a min. bet up to 15,000-100,000 if you're playing on the maximum bet setting. And a nice feature is that, unusually, all of these symbols offer smaller payouts for only 2OAK.

The lower paying symbols are playing card symbols 9 through A and they offer 5OAK rewards from 1.50-10,000, depending on your bet size. Oddly with these symbols it's only 9 and 10 that offer payouts for 2OAK.

Wilds are our mighty hero and whilst he doesn't earn you anything he'll substitute for all symbols except Scatters and he gets even more interesting during the Free Spins.

Scatters are a richly rewarding silver coin, offering up to a 200,000-coin payout if you land 5OAK whilst betting on maximum bet. Three of them will trigger the Free Spins.

Free Spins Multipliers

There are two bonus features in the game, one of which will be randomly selected when you land three or more Scatters. They both consist of 10 Free Spins, but Bonus Feature 1 will offer you a 2x multiplier for landing the Warrior Wild. Bonus Feature 2, meanwhile, offers an 8x multiplier for Warrior Wilds.

It's worth noting that the Free Spins bonus has a different paytable that offers less, starts at minimum payouts for 3OAK, and has Wilds don't appear on Reel 1. You can, though, retrigger an additional five free spins with only two Scatters.

Ming Not Your Thing?

If all this isn't sounding a tempting enough treat for you how about considering something a little less blood-thirsty? Microgaming's Emperor of the Sea has an ancient Chinese theme but takes a more gentle approach. Don't be lulled too falsely by the relaxing music and the beautifully stylised illustrations, though. There are some good hauls to be made with a potential maximum jackpot of 1,650,000 coins.

Ming Warrior Conclusion

Ming Warrior is one of Ainsworth's newest releases at the time of review and its graphics and gameplay are appealing, but does this game, with its half-hearted soundtrack and minimal Bonus Features stand up in a crowded market?

Well, as an Australian software developer making games for a market that favours high volatility gaming, Ming Warrior would certainly appeal to gamers holding out for more than just pennies.

Whilst, with the 2OAK payout option, there is a regular stream of little cashes, there's a serious potential for some big money with an 8x multiplier for 5OAK with Wild Warrior substitutes.

You'll just need a sack full of silver and a determined warrior's mindset to hold out for it.
