Frankenstein Slot Machine

Frankenstein was the creation of English author Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley who first published the novel back in 1818 telling the story of a young scientist who created a monster during an experiment. Such was the popularity of the fictional tale it has spawned many more novels, movies (including ‘Frankenstein’ in 1931 and ‘Victor Frankenstein’ in 2015), television shows – and slot machines too of course.

It’s yet another partnership between NetEnt and Universal Studios (just like the Scarface slot machine and Dracula slot machine), and like those, it begins with a dramatic animated scene of a graveyard and the iconic Frankenstein Castle accompanied by thunderous spooky sounds to captivate you and get you engrossed in the action on the reels.

Variety of Staking Options

The structure of the Frankenstein slot machine will be familiar to most of you, consisting of 5 reels and 3 rows with 20 adjustable paylines on offer. This means there is a range of betting options available with coin values ranging from 1p up to 50p and one to ten coins allowed to be bet each spin – meaning playing all paylines would cost as little as 20p while the maximum bet allowed per spin is £100.

Spooky Symbols

NetEnt have done an incredible job designing the symbols in the Frankenstein slot machine ensuring that the spooky and gory feel of the movie comes across on the reels.

The symbols include two linked wilds which will be discussed in greater detail below, but there is a Lightning Wild for the base game and a Fire Wild for the free spins feature. The games Scatter symbol is the Burning Mill plus there is a multiplier symbol that appears on the fifth reel during the free spins mode.

The rest of the symbols include ‘the Monster’ (with five of him on a single payline results in the maximum payout of 1500 coins), Dr Frankenstein, Fritz, the Brain, plus Ace to 9 symbols that you’d associate more with online video poker games and other casino games.

Linked Wilds

The pay table in the Frankenstein slot machine boasts that Linked Wilds give you the chance for ‘massive wins’ and I simply cannot argue with that – it’s a fantastic feature that occurs regularly. This sees the Wild spread across the reels with two nearby positions transformed into Wilds too, and there are two types that you’ll encounter.

Lightning Wild: This is the standard Wild that substitutes for all other symbols except the Scatter and it will land during the base game only - however it only appears on the second, third and fourth reels.

Fire Wild: This is the Wild that you’ll encounter during the free spins feature, substituting for all others except the Scatter and Multiplier symbols. This gives you a guaranteed Wild on the second, third or fourth reel for each and every free spin.

Burning Mill Free Spins

This is quite ‘Frank-ly’ one of the most rewarding free spins features that I have ever encountered, truly rewarding you for triggering it, and not only due to the Fire Wild just discussed. To trigger it you’ll simply need to land three Scatter symbols (the Burning Mill) anywhere on the reels – a feat that will see you rewarded with 10 free spins, but that is only the beginning.

You also get the opportunity to prolong your free spins feature by acquiring additional spins by landing more Scatter symbols, with two options available. When you land two Scatters you will see your free spin counter increased by 5 additional spins, while landing three Scatters will see the counter increased by 10 additional spins – very generous indeed!

Nope, that’s still not all! In addition to all of these free spins you can enjoy a multiplier bonus each time the multiplier symbol lands on the fifth reel. The multiplier begins at 2x and increases by one each time to a maximum of 5x, after which the multiplier symbol is removed from the fifth reel – but you’re practically guaranteed a large win achieving this.

Frank-tastic!

Excuse the pun but the Frankenstein slot machine from NetEnt certainly is fantastic. NetEnt have done a great job capturing the spookiness and eeriness of the fictional tale across 5 reels with a dark and gothic styled design.

It’s just a pity there aren’t more bonus features included but with both linked wilds and the generous free spins mode we can’t get too greedy as they certainly provide hefty wins. I especially love how additional free spins can be won simply by landing two or more Scatters, rather than having to land a minimum of three.
