The Million Pound Drop Slot Review

Think you can beat the drop and win lots of money? Now is your chance thanks to The Million Pound Drop slot machine from Endemol. This slot was released back in 2012 to cater for fans of the television game show which burst onto our screens in May 2010 on Channel 4, presented by Davina McCall – who presented the Big Brother TV Show for a decade.

If you don’t already know, The Million Pound Drop sees a contestant (or often couples) given £1 million split into 40 bundles of £50 notes each worth £25,000. There are eight rounds with a multiple choice question asked each one and 60 seconds to place cash – with four answers in the first four rounds, three choices in the next three, and then only two choices in the final round. Contestants have to place the money on a trapdoor of the answer they think is correct, though it can be spread across multiple answers but one answer must be left clear of cash. The trapdoors of the wrong answers then open and any cash falls, thus reducing the maximum win available.

As with all online slots by Endemol, they have done a fantastic job recreating the game show on the reels, with authentic music included and bonus features based on parts of the show.

It’s All About the Money…

There are a total of twelve symbols with two Wild’s included – a standard one working how most online slots work, and a Golden one for expanding Wilds, with both having a simple design just displaying the word Wild. The standard Wild replaces all other symbols aside from the two bonus symbols and the Golden Wild, with five on a payline rewarding you with 2,5000 coins while the Golden Wild turns four other symbols Wild when it lands on reel three which always results in additional wins.

There are two bonus symbols. One is The Million Pound Drop logo which is required for The Drop feature and a security card for the Security Pass feature. There are also four symbols which contain various bundles of money with different coloured bands used to distinguish them, plus A, K, Q and J letters which are the lowest valued symbols of all.

Security Pass Bonus

The Security Pass Bonus feature is rather tricky to activate as it requires a Security Pass symbol on reel 2, 3 and 4 during the same spin, but when you do land them get ready for a big win as it never disappoints.

Here you are presented with the view of under the trapdoors – just as shown on television. Cash will fall from the top of the screen but rather than just watching it disappear you get to click on the bundles to accumulate free spins and multipliers. I managed to accumulate 14 free spins with a 3x multiplier attached to all wins, however I failed to retrigger the feature – with an additional 12 free spins added to your count if you manage to do so!

The Drop Bonus

The Drop Bonus is definitely my favourite of the two bonus features, beginning when you land The Million Pound Drop symbol on reel 1, 3 and 5 on the same spin. This plays similar to the game show, although there are no questions and answers as players could easily Google them while playing.

Instead you are provided with a top win which is the total amount of money you start with, and this is based on the stake you are playing for. You then have eight rounds to play through, placing money on trapdoors and hoping to survive to the next round, plus there is bonus cash on offer if you get deep into the rounds.

Thoughts on The Million Pound Drop

Overall I think Endemol have done a pretty good job with The Million Pound Drop slot machine, though it is certainly not as exciting as their other licensed games such as the UFC slot machine.

I was a little disappointed with the design of the symbols as the silhouettes of the presenter, contestants, the security guards who watch over the cash, or even the briefcase that it is brought to the studio in could have been used in place of the letters. The sounds were also a let-down as there is minimal sound when you click to spin the reels, though when you land a high value symbol or winning combination of symbols the familiar sounds from the show of the trapdoors opening ring out.

Thankfully the two bonus features make up for these flaws, with both of them proving very lucrative!
