Merry Money Slot Review

Set in the heart of Sherwood Forest, Merry Money is based around the legendary heroic outlaw Robin Hood, who along with his group of Merry Men stole from the rich with his archery and sword wielding skills to give to the poor. The legendary actions of Robin Hood have spawned several books, television shows, movies, and of course slot machines.

With 5 reels and 10 paylines it is a structure we are familiar with from Barcrest, as are the staking options on offer. With a stake per line of 0.01 up to 50.00 available you can play from £0.10 up to a maximum of £500 each and every spin – plus it boasts a maximum win of £250,000.

Symbols from Sherwood

The Robin Hood theme of Merry Money offers so much opportunity for great symbols, but unfortunately they are very poor and show a lack of imagination from Barcrest.

The bag of gold symbol is a stacked wild which substitutes for all others apart from the Merry Money logo offering you better odds of winning. There are two bonus symbols to watch out for that activate additional features – Robin Hood and an archery target, plus plain boring playing card symbols from Ace to 10 have been used.

Pick Me Bonus

Landing three or more of the archery target symbols anywhere on the reels in one spin will see the pick me bonus feature begin – and I was pleasantly surprised at how regularly this occurs. You must select one of the archery target symbols at random which will then see your cash prize revealed and added to your credits – but this is only the beginning of feature in Merry Money.

Target Bonus

To trigger the Target Bonus feature you need to land three or more of the Robin Hood bonus symbols. This sees you in Sherwood Forest where Robin Hood is taking aim at a target – but where his arrows land is what we are interested in. If the arrows land in the yellow section it activates the Hall of Plenty Bonus whereas the arrows landing in the red section will see the Win Spins Bonus begin instead – don’t worry though, both offer awesome opportunities for big wins!

Win Spins Bonus

Fancy between 2 and 100 win spins? Yes, I thought so, but first you must navigate a trail which determines the number of win spins you are rewarded with – represented by a water wheel that has the numbers one to six and the word collect. It’s arrows you need to watch out for as you advance through the trail as these give you an enhanced boost for additional spins.

The trail stops once you reach the maximum of 100 win spins or when you land on the word collect – with your spins then playing out as you sit back and reap in huge rewards. Plus the pick me bonus feature is available during this feature which always helps boost the wins.

Hall of Plenty Bonus

It’s time to steal from the rich to feed the poor in true Robin Hood fashion as he sneaks into the Sheriff’s castle while he sleeps in order to steal his treasure. You will begin by spinning a wheel with numbers one to six on it which determines how many of the six doors you can sneak into. This is an awesome pick ’em feature which sees prizes added to your total when successful in stealing riches, but when you pick the wrong door girl’s rush out screaming which in turn wakes up the Sheriff who shouts on his henchmen to pursuit after you – thus ending the feature.

Merry Money Hits The Target

Thanks to the exciting and highly rewarding bonus features incorporated into it, Merry Money does hit the target and is a slot machine you should try. The Win Spins feature is my favourite by far and never fails to deliver large wins, although I’ve only managed to get up to 38 rather than the maximum of 100 which is stated.

My biggest grievance with it is graphics and lack of originality in regards to symbols whereas competing software developer’s versions of this theme offer stunning visuals and a unique style – such as Bally Technologies Lady Robin Hood or Net Entertainment’s Robin Hood Shifting Riches, whereas Merry Money just seems like a reused template from other Barcrest slots.
