Lucky 5 Reeler Slot Review

It’s time to get Lucky! The Lucky 5 Reeler slot machine from Barcrest has a theme based on Luck and is unlike any of their other slots. Before I played Lucky 5 Reeler, its logo gave me the perception that it would be a dull 5 reel classic slot with different symbols and the same structure we are used to from Barcrest – but fortunately that couldn’t have been further from the truth.

The unique structure sees the reels spin 5 times with winning combinations resulting in symbols locking in place, meaning you get five spins for your one bet and therefore your money lasts for longer. Accompanied by upbeat sounds as you spin the reels and swooping sounds as the main slot is transferred to its own display box after each spin, Lucy 5 Reeler is surprisingly good.

The main drawbacks you should be aware of are no bonus features which is very disappointing, plus those of you who like to play slots for low limits will be saddened to learn the minimum bet for all paylines is £2 – not the £0.20 we usually experience on Barcrest slot machines.

Innovative Structure

Despite containing 5 reels and 10 paylines which is common in Barcrest slots, you are presented on screen with one main slot and space above it for four others. Once you click spin the main slot reels will spin and the final result will be transported to one of the four spaces above, the main slot reels spin again and the same happens, until the fifth and final spin occurs on the main slot.

Below each slot will be the result of your winnings - if you are lucky enough to have any, and there is also a total count which adds up the wins of all your five spins and makes it easy to see if you’ve won or lost more than your initial stake, saving you from having to manually add up each slot.

One of the most important things to be aware of is that winning combinations of symbols lock in place for the next spin if you have any of your five spins remaining. The aim here is to land a winning combination, preferably Wilds, on the first spin as they will then remain in place for the four remaining spin and guarantee you a lucrative win. Many times I went four spins without winning anything and then landed a nice combination on my final spin – frustrating indeed!

A higher stake is required than usual at £2 minimum per spin (for all paylines) while a maximum of £500 is on offer for the high rollers amongst you. Lucky 5 Reeler offers a maximum win of £125,000 while majority of other Barcrest slots max win is double that – but this is no surprise due to the lack of features.

Variety of Symbols

There is a total of nine symbols in Lucky 5 Reeler with the main one being the slot’s logo which also acts as the Wild. This is accompanied on the reels by the outline of a woman (most likely referencing Lady Luck due to the theme of the slot), a four-leaf clover, black cat, and yes unfortunately like other Barcrest slots boring playing card symbols from Ace to 10 are also included – surprise, surprise huh?!

Of course, the highest paying of all of these is the Wild which substitutes for all other symbols and five on a payline sees you receive 50x your line bet, in stark contrast to the Q, J and 10 playing card symbols with five of each of them paying out only 5x your line bet.

It Reeled Me In!

While I was initially hesitant about Lucky 5 Reeler I think they have done a good job in creating a slot with a unique structure which is totally different from their other slot machines, however it could have been greatly improved.

The lack of bonus features is bitterly disappointing and will put many players off playing it despite the layout – even a pick ‘em or free spins feature would have resulted in an increased number of people spinning its reels. It’s also not for those of you with shallow bankrolls as the minimum bet per spin is £2, whereas we are so used to the minimum stake per spin being £0.20 in Barcrest slots.

All in all I would definitely recommend you try it for a few spins – when you land a combination of Wilds on your first which remain for the four others you will quickly forget about bonus features as you drool over your winnings.
