Pharaoh's Dream Slot Machine

The rich history of Ancient Egypt and various items that can be associated with the era has provided slots developers with a plethora of ideas which is the reason there are so many Ancient Egyptian themed sots in existence so what makes Bally’s Pharaoh’s Dream slot machine more attractive to play as compared to other Egyptian-themed slots like Novomatic’s Book of Ra slot and IGT’s Cleopatra?

Well, this time the focus is on Pharaoh’s rather than being generic. For those of you who skipped history lessons at school the Pharaoh was the most powerful person in Ancient Egypt, owning all the land and making all of the rules – plus he collected all of the taxes so go figure as to how he afforded all that gold!

Stakes A Pharaoh Would Be Proud Of

The structure is a familiar one from Bally with Pharaoh’s Dream played on 5 reels and 40 paylines, however while the bet per payline options range from 1p to £10 the minimum and maximum stakes are actually 50p and £500 which will suit those of you with a Pyramid of cash at your disposal. The reason it’s not 40p to £400 is that an additional 10 coins are paid to enable bonus feature – but don’t worry it’s definitely worth it thanks to the sensational free spins mode!

Big Riches Buried in the Pyramid

The symbols are typical of the Ancient Egyptian theme and if you’ve played a slot based on the era before, you’ll be well aware of the various items to expect as symbols on the reels.

The standout symbol is two Pyramids pictured at dusk with a half-moon and stars cluttering the sky in the background and this is the Wild symbol which substitutes for all but the Scatter, with five on one payline resulting in a payout of 10x your stake. The Scatter is an equally stunning symbol which is represented by the Great Sphinx and is needed to gain access to the free spins mode.

Other various Ancient-Egyptian symbols that you’ll discover deep in the heart of the Pyramid include the Eye of Horus (a symbol of protection, royal power and good health), Scarab (an ancient artefact), Ankh (the hieroglyphic character that read ‘life), and these are accompanied by low valued Ace to 9 symbols.

Special Spins from the Sphinx

The Great Sphinx is an icon in Ancient-Egyptian history symbolised by a large human-headed lion that was carved from a mound of rock where it guards the front of Pharaoh Khafra’s pyramid, and it is renowned for having special powers which you can reap the benefits of once you land the Sphinx symbol on the first, third and fifth reel during one spin.

This combination grants you access to the pyramid where huge wins are waiting with a cash prize of 4x your stake awarded to you before you are transferred to a different set of reels (which see the Wild and Bonus symbol’s excluded) with 10 free spins awarded.

While the exclusion of the Bonus symbol does in fact mean you cannot trigger additional free spins which is quite disappointing, the standard Wild is excluded as stacked Wilds now come into play for even greater wins (consisting of four different symbols to make it up this includes a pyramid and then a magical mist ascending from it). The stacked Wilds can appear on the second, third, fourth or fifth reels and when a full stack of four Wilds appear the actually lock in place until the rest of your spins play out – get this early and you’ll be draped in Gold thanks to the colossal wins on offer.

Rewarding Slot but Tough Competition

If you’ve played online slots before you’ll have encountered plenty of Ancient-Egyptian themed slots at online casinos so how does Pharaoh’s Dream compare against the competition? Personally I prefer IGT’s Cleopatra slot machine which is now linked to the infamous Mega Jackpots progressive which is often worth life changing amounts.

While the overall design is pretty good and the symbols all represent important aspects of life in Ancient-Egypt, I found the payouts to be on the low side (such as five Wilds on a payline only paying 10x your stake), and the fact that there is only one bonus feature (the free spins mode) is very disappointing. Saying that, the stacked Wilds in the free spins mode are very rewarding, but not being able to retrigger additional free spins is off-putting.

All in all, Pharaoh’s Dream is certainly not a slot that you’ll be dreaming of playing again!
